Welcome to the information page about the SALEM-WITCH mailing list at Rootsweb, the list for descendants of the people involved in the Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692. I am Margo Burns (), the list-owner, and am a descendant of Rebecca (Towne) Nurse, one of the 19 people hanged that summer. I maintain a website about the trials and the 17th century in general at:
If you subscribe to this list in regular "mail mode", you will receive
every posting made to SALEM-WITCH as a separate e-mail. If you subscribe in
"digest mode," several postings are combined and sent to you together
as a single large message.
1. How to subscribe in "mail mode." Send a message to
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
subscribe
and no additional text.
2. How to unsubscribe from "mail mode." Send a message to
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
unsubscribe
and no additional text.
3. How to subscribe in "digest mode." Send a message to
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
subscribe
and no additional text.
4. How to unsubscribe from "digest mode." Send a message to
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
unsubscribe
and no additional text.
5. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have
to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages
to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again.
6. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives
it, just send it to SALEM-WITCH-L@rootsweb.com.
It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't
need to send it explicitly to both.

9. To read through a threaded version of the archive of postings by subject (which will also give you an idea of how many postings are made to this list per month -- and it does vary from 1-94, last time I checked, but it seems to average out to about 55/month), go to:
